How-to Video: Art Journaling

Each Monday, Barbara demonstrates the weekly art-journal assignment(s). She also shares personal stories and insights on what each week’s assignment(s) can reveal to us.
After you’ve watched, it’s time for you to dive in, explore and get messy!

We’re going to start by ‘Emptying Our Cups’
  • What do you have to ‘tip out’ before being ready to ‘fill up’ again?

Recommended Materials

A journal, watercolours, paint brushes, jar of water, waterproof pens or markers (if your pens are not waterproof, you can still use them – they may bleed a little, sometimes this adds to the ‘beauty’ of your finished piece), scissors, glue or double-sided tape.

Instructions

  1. Let’s crack open your journal and get started!
  2. Skip the first couple of pages (so as the pens or watercolours don’t bleed through)
  3. Let’s begin by asking ourselves: “What do I need to ‘tip out’ that may be limiting me moving forward?’
  4. Follow the instructions on the video.
  5. Consider what you need to ‘tip out’ to prepare your mind for fresh ideas.
  6. Decorate by using coloured pens or markers.
  7. Take a photo of your work and upload it to our Private Facebook group.
